We knew from the get go that having an out door reception was risky. On the actual wedding day, the weather was very cooperative during pictures outside of the temple. But as the day went on, the sky began to darken. Our plan was to head to the park at about 4pm to begin setting up for the reception.
This wasn't going to be your everyday formal reception where folks walk in, shake hands with the everyone in the line and then leave with a little nut cup. This was going to be a casual summer picnic. We were serving hamburgers, chips, beans, potato salad and punch while friends and family mingled. We just wanted everyone to come and have a good time.
At 2pm it was raining cats and dogs and the wind was blowing something fierce. I was a wreck. I was on the phone trying to make arrangements to have the festivities moved to the church without knowing exactly how we were going to notify the guests. Everyone kept reassuring me that it would blow over. And they were right. When we left to head up to the park, it had reduced to a light drizzle despite dodging branches and twigs in the road on the way. As we began setting up the clouds parted and the sky cleared. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful reception.
